ADD Experience Podcast Links Updated

I just updated all of the podcast links so that you can listen to the ADD Experience on your favorite player.  They're on the right side of the page (unless you're on mobile) and on the Podcast page linked at the top. Or you can just come by the blog here to check out all the episodes and leave comments. I even added a boring ass RSS feed so that Krehan won't get mad.

Be sure to come back to the blog and leave me some comments so we can argue over the Internet like grown ups.

Homecoming: A New Way to Envision Stories.

I just finished Homecoming on Amazon. I liked it! It felt different, but I couldn't place why. Then learned that it came from a podcast featured on Gimlet Media. Ohhh...holy crap. Now I see. The podcast format necessarily has a different feel. I applauded the effort.

Then I realized that Serialized and story-based podcasts are a *great* way to get stories out there for people to pick up stories that they might not have with a book or a television show. Now my mind is whirring. The format is a different one.

While I know that the audio story is not new in the podcasting world, the way that people consume media rapidly changing. Looking forward to more interesting stories being created from this medium in the future.

Let me know what you think about the future of podcasted stories!

BenjaCon: A Way Of Getting My Comic Convention Vibes Back During A Pandemic

BenjaCon is happening this year for the first time. Be a part of this inaugural experience. I'm not even sure what will happen because I'm making it up as I go along. The best way I can describe BenjaCon is as a way to get my comic convention vibes back.

Yeah...I don't know how to explain something I'm doing as I'm in the process of doing it, but I'm creating it anyway. It's a feeling and a flow. An art + performance + social + development + design project. Basically, I have gotten A LOT of my creative spirit from the con experience over the years, and I want to channel that energy.

It's a strange time, but I've been learning to corral energy for growth instead of fighting dumb shit. (If you've been paying attention, that's the idea behind Transcendent Press.)

Artists and creatives will be doing stuff.

Follow along with the nonsense by following me on social or checking out https://benjacon.com.

Have You Made Your Mid 2020 Resolutions Yet?

As you may recall, I'm pretty big on New Years' Resolutions. It's serious business for me. I break out the legal pad, the calendar, the pens, the highlighters and clear the whiteboards. It's a multi-week process that starts well before the New Year.

Well...2020 is a little different. This year, I had to stop and reconsider everything. I couldn't rely on the people around me behaving the same, and *I* certainly wasn't going to behave the same. While my overall goal is still in place, the landscape has changed drastically. So now is the time to adapt. It's not feasible for me to just struggle through the year as if everything was going to be the same.

So I'm pulling out the half-used legal pad, the 6 month calendar, the dirty highlighter, and using the remaining space on the whiteboard. It's time to get to working out the next steps. Because I'll be damned if I don't make the most of the situation.

It's like the wise Mike Tyson said about planning...

Should Artists Cash In On The Flavor Of The Month?

I used to have a problem with people "cashing in" on the current wave of social discourse or media hype, and I still do. BUT since I've started engaging with more people more often (thank extroverts), I've come to a much better understanding of the art that takes part in genuine discussions with the public.
In fact, the BEST artists do it without cashing in. They're able to channel the vibe of what everyone is thinking/feeling and add relevancy. This is why pop art spoke to me many years ago before
Get in that conversation and be genuine. It can be dangerous/scary, but it's fully in line with being an artist. Just beware of being an artist that's only there to cash in. That's for bums.

8BitCubist Face Masks Now Available

Times are crazy, so everyone's got some face masks now, right? Me too. I worked with local SoCal artist Mr David Ruano (no relation) to create a set of facemasks in a couple styles. More information on the website. Let me know what you think.
